Researching Royal Standard Poodle Breeders

By Miranda Sweeney

Doing a little canine comparison research before selecting one as a new pet can help assure an individual finds a breed that fits their personal style. It is important to make sure that the types being considered have grooming needs, potential health concerns and personality traits that the potential own is comfortable with. For someone who may have animal allergies but would still love to have a larger dog that is very affectionate, finding quality royal standard poodle breeders is a good place to start.

Poodles in general are a highly desirable breed with a long and admirable history. It is hard to say exactly where they originated, but the AKC tends to credit them to German heritage. There many positive attributes have made them excellent performers and skilled hunting dogs who are great at retrieving and not at all opposed to water.

According to the AKC, toy, miniature and standards are the only three officially recognized categories for this breed. The term, Royals, is an unofficial title given to those who are uncommonly excessive in height and weight, while teacup refers to those who are extremely small. Those on the extreme ends of the scale are at a higher risk for health issues involving their hearts, bones strength and hip displacement.

Royals can stand about thirty inches high at the withers and weigh in excess of eighty pounds when full grown. On average, a healthy dog of this type lives to be twelve years old, or older. Their appearance is one of aristocratic beauty and its distinctive shape is easily recognized by people all around the world.

When placed in proper show stance, these dogs have a near perfectly squared silhouette where the body itself is basically the same in length as it is in height, not counting the head and legs. The rounded skull is fronted by a lengthened, tapered muzzle and eyes that are oval in shape, either very dark brown or black, and wide set. The ears form long silken flaps hanging straight down at the sides of the face.

Their legs are in perfect proportion the body's size whereas those of most breeds are either on the short or long side of the spectrum. With no sloping, no dipping or arching, these dogs present a very level back line while standing. They have thick, stiff tails that are sometimes cropped but always raised and carried straight up in the air.

Poodles have a distinctive curly style coat that is easily identifiable and almost always a solid color. Their amazing fur is actually more like hair as in it constantly grows and does not shed. This makes them very clean indoor pets and perfect for allergy sufferers, but it also means they will require regular grooming.

They have a reputation for being easily trained, highly intelligent and able to understand a great many words. Regular exercise is a must to maintain their calm disposition, though they are known to be wonderful with children, adults and other household pets. Poodles very affectionate, consider any humans they interact with regularly to be part of their pack and are fiercely loyal and endlessly devoted.
