Basics About Any Veterinarian In Huntington Beach

By Tammie Caldwell

The abbreviation vet comes from the word veterinary. Veterinary medicine is a profession that is practiced by veterinary physicians. These physicians handle the treatment, diagnosis, study, and prevention of various medical problems in animals. Their practice is confined to animals only and not human beings. In Britain, the word veterinary surgeon is used while Australia and the US, the term veterinary physician is preferred. Any veterinarian in Huntington Beach has the right qualification to offer several services related to the field of veterinary to the public.

The use of the title veterinary is normally regulated and protected by the state so that only individuals who are specifically trained in this field can use it. One needs to be licensed and registered as a veterinarian for them to have the permission to practice in the field of veterinary. Anyone who practices or prescribes treatment to animals without the right qualification and registration commits a criminal offense that can attract heavy penalties.

Most veterinarians work in hospital environments where they attend to animals directly. Presence of various animal categories allow for specialization among veterinary professionals. Major animal categories include, but are not limited to livestock, companion animals, zoo animals, and equines.

Veterinarians handle several and diverse responsibilities. In general, they are concerned with offering diagnosis services, treating medical conditions, and providing aftercare. Type of intervention given varies with the level of experience and qualification of the practitioner. However, despite of disparities experience and qualification, surgery seems to be the most preferred intervention option. Lack of speech in animals makes physicians to heavily rely on clinical signs to treat them.

Care offered in veterinary medicine is related to that offered in human medicine in many aspects. First, a lot of emphasis is given to prophylactic treatment to offer prevention against future diseases and medical condition. As such vaccines are given to protect against diseases like rabies and distemper. Dental diseases are also prevented through dental prophylaxis. In some cases owners are educated so that they know how to prevent possible instances of certain diseases.

Traditional medicine has various specialties and so does veterinary medicine. The major specialties in this field include anesthesia, dentistry, and surgery. Fields that deal with organ systems like cardiology and dermatology are also given special attention in veterinary medicine. One of the major differences between traditional and veterinary medicine is that the latter combines medical and surgical aspects of biological systems together.

The US private sector employs more veterinarians than the public sector. It has been found that over 75% of all workers are employed in the private sector. Some specialize in research and work in research laboratories and facilities. Some of the places where workers who treat small animals work are veterinary hospitals and schools. On the other hand, those who treat big animals may work in charities, colleges, zoos, farms, animal food companies, and pharmaceutical companies.

Salaries for these professionals are fairly good. Salaries also seem to rise with increase in experience and level of studies. Workers in the private sector also tend to earn more than their counterparts in the public sector. Debarking of dogs, cropping of ears, docking of tails, and declawing of cats are some of the cosmetic issues under debate today.
