All About The Sweet Bundles Of Love Called Maltese Puppies

By Tammie Caldwell

Anytime you are thinking about bringing a pet into your home, take the time to learn as much as you can about the animal. You should have some understanding of its personality, and temperament at the very least. While Maltese puppies are simply adorable, it is still important to learn more about them before bringing one home. This will help to ensure that both you, and your pet are happy.

One of the first things that you should understand about this breed is that it was bred to be a companion dog. This means, that is made to spend time with its humans. If you do not have enough time to devote to this pup, it will be quite unhappy. You will also likely end up feeling unhappy, because when this canine becomes unhappy, it can turn destructive, and may also suffer from anxiety due to being separated from you.

This breed is small. When full grown it will have a height of only eight to ten inches tall. This canine when full grown weighs around seven pounds. With a pooch this small, it is important to use caution when young children are around. They may inadvertently hurt such a small dog. The child may also be bit if the pooch feels threatened.

One common complaint that canine owners often express has to do with shedding. Well, this type of dog, that is not an issue. They do not shed much at all. They are also hypoallergenic, which is wonderful news for those with allergies.

This canines small size does not mean that it is inactive. They have tons of energy. You may want to start agility training in order to drain some of it. It is also a nice way for you both to bond with one another. Besides that, it is lots of fun. These pups also make wonderful service dogs for those in need.

These canines are relatively easy to train. They are intelligent, and fast learners. Especially, if they are rewarded for their efforts. Reward based training works best with this puppy. Be consistent with your training, and never use harsh treatment, or your dog may become fearful of you.

Your Malty will do best in households with adults and older children. The child should be old enough to understand the need to be gentle. Your pet may also prefer to be the only dog in the household. While not every dog of this breed will have these issues, many do. One way to potentially overcome them is to begin socialization at a young age. Expose the pup to a variety of people and situations.

For the most part these cute pups are wonderful additions to the family. Be prepared to fall in love. Also be prepared for plenty of grooming.
