Tips For Any Dog Walker In Houston Tx

By Linda Ruiz

You should always be prepared to handle yourself properly and have whatever you need when you take your dog out. A fellow dog walker in Houston Tx must see that your dog is obedient and calm. If you're about to go on that walk, your dog is probably already quite excited.

You should always put a leash on your dog so it does not get away from you or cause you any unwanted problems. Make sure your leash is secured on an already harnessed dog if that's what you normally use. Keep in mind that any type of leash is appropriate, from new retractable to old standard. It must just keep the dog securely with you at all times.

Have a pooper scooper and bag on you whenever you take a walk. You will use the bag to pick up the droppings, turn the bag inside out, then tie it up. You can use any type of smaller plastic like a produce bag, or the ones that hold newspapers for delivery.

Keep water handy on you for yourself and your dog. You might even want to take a small bowl with you, since some dogs aren't able to drink directly out of the bottle. You never know what could happen on your walk, so you need to be prepared with a supply of water.

Your dog actually does not need any clothing to keep it warm on your walk. Contrary to popular belief; only skinny, small, or normally warm weather dogs who are suddenly exposed to very cold temperatures should benefit from extra clothing. Other dogs are usually able to regulate their own temperatures without trouble.

Make sure to check the rules of the local parks department or visitor centers whenever you wish to take your dog to a park or on a trail. Laws differ in all places. Sometimes dogs are allowed on trails but not the buildings, or they might need to be leashed at all times. Cities have differing laws about the leashes. For example, you can let your dog off its leash only before 9am in New York's Central Park.

Keep in mind that you might need to stick to fenced-in runs if you don't think your dog will stay right with you when you take its leash off. This might be useful for younger dogs who are prone to exploring new areas and won't listen to you. Keep dog treats handy to help get your dog's attention.

You can occasionally relax under a shady spot during your walk. Play with your dog, or let it play with other dogs while you make conversation with the other walkers. In case your dog digs holes where it shouldn't or gets into fights with other dogs, make sure you keep a close eye on it at all times. Know that dogs don't sweat, so give it water regularly or let it swim if there's a designated place and the weather isn't very cold.

Have tags that indicate your address and contact numbers on your dog at all times. This includes current rabies tags as well. Your dog must also be registered in the city you take your walks in.
