About Toy Australian Shepherd Breeders OK

By Tanisha Berg

Australian shepherds are beautiful working dogs and their specialization used to be herding. Today, people usually buy them as family dogs, thanks to their really attractive appearance and wonderful nature. If you are interesting in buying smaller version of this lovely dog, Toy Australian Shepherd breeders OK breed might be the best choice for you.

Miniaturizing Australian Shepherds to make them smaller and more suitable for keeping as family dogs, breeders have developed three new lines of these wonderful dogs. There are toy, teacup and miniature variations. Toy variation is especially popular, and these dogs get to be ten to fourteen inches high, while miniature ones usually have at least fourteen inches, and teacup variation under ten inches.

They all come in four accepted colors, with white or both white and tan markings. Basic coat colors are black, red, red merle and blue merle. Merle colors are especially interesting and highly appreciated. These color variations very often have blue eyes, and are a result of one special gene these dogs can be carriers of. They also can have white markings only, and both tan and white markings.

Females have higher prices, and some color variations are especially appreciated, for example blue merle with tan and white markings and blue eyes. Rare combinations have higher prices. White markings are expected, but there shouldn't be too much of them, because show dogs need to fulfill some requirements. It is good to know that this lovely fur doesn't require too much maintenance, whether it is straight or wavy.

They have especially kind nature. Always ready to play and learn some new things, they are also highly eager to please, and it is really easy to train them. Kind, friendly, affectionate and active, they make perfect companions for your children as well. Happy and never aggressive, they will make great friends for people of all generations.

Although some of them may experience problems with their hips, the biggest problems are Merle's eyes and ears. The same gene that causes their interesting coloration can cause blindness and hearing problems. These problems can occur if both parents are Merle variations. If one of them isn't Merle, but has some other combination of colors, this problem probably won't appear.

When buying your Merle toy shepherd puppy, it is highly advisable to make sure that both parents are tested and certified clear. You should also make sure that his ears and eyes are checked by vet. Another thing to do is to test if your dog is a carrier of so called MDR1 gene. This special gen might make dogs too sensitive to different vaccinations, and it is important that your vet knows about this.

These dogs require sufficient exercise, and if you don't have a yard, it will be necessary to take your dog on regular long walks. If left alone for longer periods of time regularly, with nothing to do, your dog might develop behavioral problems simply because he gets bored. This was originally working dog, and he needs to have something to occupy him.
