Give The Gift Of Health With Dog Treats Made In The USA

By Grace Daniels

Half of American households share their lives with a domesticated animal and take care of their loyal companions as valued family members. Despite the economic crisis, animal lovers spent 23% more last year, above and beyond expenditures in 2007, on their pampered best friends. The record of ongoing poisonings from Chinese imports that have sickened or resulted in the deaths of many American pets, has culminated in FDA warnings that validate the deadly serious necessity of purchasing dog treats made in the USA.

Despite China's assurances that their food is now safe, evidence continues to the contrary. Within their own country, dining out is relegated dangerous with rice that contains toxic cadmium and suspicions that rat is being parlayed and plated as lamb. A nation that produced mercury tainted baby formula, and then after being held accountable, manufactured a carcinogen into the product, holds a track record proven untrustworthy.

The Food and Drug Administration, in conjunction with the APPA, work to provide a checks and balance system for the intricacies of food safety through American regulations. In efforts to impede pet food poisonings and continuing substandard food safety issues related to China's imports, stringent safety mandates and food quality controls serve to impact the flow of international trade with demands for high product standards and safe manufacturing processes related to the pet food industry.

Diet is one of the most important aspects of health for all life. Treats, as part of a dogs daily nutrition, are specifically formulated for dogs with special health issues. Used universally as a motivational tool in training, or as a special 'extra' for reinforcing good behavior, the caregiver/companion bond is forged with a gift that fosters health.

Every morsel a canine consumes counts and necessitates a formulation of nutritional value. Healthy, safe, manufactured 'extras' offer the advantages of desirable taste with ingredients that foster coat, teeth, digestive or joint health without any detrimental side effects. Myriad options are fortified to help manage specific health issues.

Aging canines are generally less active, necessitating healthy weight control through conscious effort. Manufactured 'bonuses' offer health in predetermined, 'easy to give' appropriate rations that take the guesswork out of weight management.

Feeding table scraps is not advised by veterinarians. Certain foods are dangerous by way of choking hazards, potential obstructions or damaged teeth from small bones, food poisoning with raw meats, or encouraging fussy eaters and obesity. Very small quantities of chocolate edibles can be fatally toxic to canines, with similar reactions occurring with onions and grapes. Some uncooked vegetables, such as rhubarb and spinach can present with adverse reactions in canines.

Our beloved pets have no option other than to trust that their caregiver will make the best choices for their health and happiness. The well-being of a pet requires daily thought, planning and due diligent care. Health is a basic need with major impact. Our loyal companions enrich our lives and ask for little in return, other than love. Making well-informed choices for the health of a pet is fulfilling a promise of love to a loyal best friend served with tasty, 'tail-wagging' dog treats made in the USA.
