Looking For Tiny Toy Poodles For Sale

By Mattie Knight

Adding a canine companion to one's life is a decision that should be taken with some consideration. Like children, a pet means accepting the responsibility to care for their every need for their entire lifetime. This is why it is important to understand the characteristics and requirements of tiny toy poodles for sale before commitment.

In general, this breed has a reputation for possessing higher IQ's than others, and being extremely adaptable because of that impressive intelligence. Being originally bred to be retrievers for hunters, they are very responsive to commands and are surprisingly easy to train. They have a haughty stature that has become synonymous with affluence and success for many dog lovers.

Typically, these dogs have a squared body with even legs, rigid tail and long neck that holds a small roundish head. Their faces are quite interesting with a long muzzle, straight hanging ears and far set dark oval eyes. Two of their more distinctive features are their coats, which may be corded or curly like lambs' wool, and their rounded feet with arched toes.

Though they come in a variety of colors, the three most common are black, white and apricot. There are groupings such as the Parti, Tuxedo and Abstract, that feature multiple tones in specific patterns or styles. An interesting fact about this breed is that a puppy may be born with one coloring type but change to a completely different look as it matures.

This category is used to describe the animals that weigh up to twelve pounds and have a height that does not exceed ten inches. Some people refer to the dogs that do not reach more than 4lbs at Teacups, though this is not an officially AKC recognized subset. Because these animals are so small, their owners are advised to be vigilant to guard them from accidental injuries and to be alert for the onset of certain health concerns.

With a typical lifespan of up to fifteen years, these canines are considered as long lived when in optimal health condition. They do tend to be prone to genetic diseases like diabetes, heart disorders, digestive issues and epilepsy as they get older. It is important to get regular ear care to stave off infections and to have eye exams to watch for retinal atrophy and cataracts.

As a highly adaptable breed, they are wonderful companions for single individuals though they are equally as loving to families with children. They make great apartment dogs but also do quite well in homes with yards. As long as they are given the opportunity to run out their energy each day, they tend to be very well behaved indoors, though it should be noted they are not meant to be exclusively outside pets.

Allergy sufferers find this breed especially appealing because their unique fur does not shed and typically produces a nearly imperceptible amount of dander. They can be quite entertaining as they learn tricks easily and are generally willing to play fetch or romp around with children for hours. To get the best responses possible, owners need to issue commands calmly, with authority and freely offer praise, love and affection.
