May Assisi Treat Heartworm In Dogs?

By Michael Robert Peterson

Heartworm is, without question, one of the most serious conditions that dogs can suffer from. It's one that various pets have been stricken with and, in many cases, it's been proven to be fatal. The question must be asked, though: can dogs, with the condition in question, be helped? One has to wonder if this will be the case but if you are curious about learning, here are a few of the most important details that any pet owner should be wary of.

For those who do not know, heartworm is a disease that is rooted in - you guessed it - the heart. Problems started when foot-long worms are found in the heart, which can lead to anything from lung disease to damage within other organs of the body. While this condition is common in many mammals, cats and ferrets included, the dog has been known as the natural host of heartworm. For this reason alone, pet owners should take greater care.

If you want to talk about the symptoms of heartworm, it seems like there are no clear ones which exist at the onset. It's when the condition is allowed to progress that symptoms start to make themselves more prevalent. Some of these include a lack of exercise and even issues related to blood flow. To say that these problems are serious would be an understatement, though one has to wonder how exactly a serious condition like heartworm may be treated.

According to authorities along the lines of Assisi, heartworm can be treated if it's found early enough. There are many cases in which an arsenic-based component called Immiticide will be used. Essentially, upon injection, Immiticide can kill adult heartworms, effectively killing the condition itself. Keep in mind, though, that a drug like this should only be given with expert care in mind. As a result, it'll be in the best interest of your pet to contact your veterinarian, since he or she will know more about solutions like aspirin for dogs than you will.

Heartworm is, without question, a serious condition that deserves the utmost care imaginable. It's easy to see that early detection will be most effective, though it seems like this is difficult given the later evidence of symptoms related to the condition in question. Nonetheless, keep a close watch on your pet and see if there are any strange changes in behavior. Once these shifts are made clear, you may be able to help clear this particular matter with relative ease.
