Halloween & 3 Tips For Healthy Dogs By Assisi Animal Health

By Jennifer Marie Anderson

It goes without saying that Halloween, for a number of people, is a favorite holiday. I am sure that most will agree, especially when there are so many festivities to get involved in. Of course, those who are dog owners must be able to take up a greater level of care, especially when there are various aspects that these animals can get into. All it takes is a bit of care, though, and these 3 pointers will be ones which Assisi Animal Health, in addition to others, will be able to agree with.

First of all, you have to make note of the fact that candy is not for dogs to eat. Assisi Animal Health will be able to agree, especially when you consider that dark chocolate and chocolate, in general, is likely to be given out during Halloween. Dark chocolate, especially, is harmful to dogs and should not be consumed by them. Make sure that you keep your candy out of reach of dogs so that their overall health will be made better as a result.

If you are going to dress up your dog for Halloween, make sure that his or her costume is comfortable. You may be able to automatically pinpoint any signs of discomfort that your dog will show, whether it's attempting to rip the costume off with their teeth or what have you. To put it simply, costume choices should not obstruct vital actions, movement and breathing included. Make sure that you look into various options in order to find the best ones.

Your dog may not act the same as others, during social situations, which is totally understandable. Nonetheless, you have to keep in mind that trick-or-treating may not bode well for certain dogs as it will for others. One of the reasons for this is because the copious amount of activity - the various costumes, the bright lights, and others - can lead to your pet feeling overwhelmed. This is why many pet owners keep their dogs at home, provided there is supervision in place.

To say that Halloween is a time for pet owners to stay cautious probably goes without saying. With so much activity being brought to the forefront, it's important to understand how dogs will react to this unique activity. As a pet owner, you must be able to understand how to calm down your furry friend so that their well-being is made better. Halloween should be a fun time, not only for you but for your dog who may very well enjoy the holiday as well.
